About this station
Pink Noise balances energy across octaves for a softer, more natural texture than white noise. The steady spectrum works well for sleep, reading, relaxation, and sound masking.
Pink noise distributes equal energy across each octave rather than across each hertz, which drops the high end by about 3 dB per octave compared with white noise. The result sits between white and brown: smoother and more natural than white, brighter and more present than brown.
Pink is usually the easier one to sleep with. Because the top end is rolled off, it lacks the hiss that some people find sharp at night, while still masking across enough of the spectrum to cover typical bedroom noise. White noise is the stronger masker but the harsher listen.
Small studies have reported improvements in deep-sleep measures with pink noise, but the samples are limited and the effect is not settled science. What is uncontroversial is the practical part: a consistent background stops intermittent noises from waking you, and that alone changes the night.
