How it works

From Style Pick to Beat in Three Steps

1Step 1

Pick a beat style

Choose trap, boom bap, drill, or lo-fi. Each style sets the drums, bass, and melody palette.

2Step 2

Set the BPM and mood

Leave BPM on Auto or drag it to the tempo you rap at, then pick a mood such as dark, chill, or hype.

3Step 3

Generate, then record

The default model returns two takes per generation. Keep the one that fits your flow and record over it.

Four Hip Hop Styles to Start From

Each style is a production recipe — drums, bass, and melody — with its own typical tempo.

Trap beats

Booming 808 bass, rapid hi-hat rolls, and dark atmospheric synths, around 140 BPM by default.

Boom bap beats

Dusty chopped samples, a jazzy piano loop, and hard-swinging '90s drums, around 92 BPM.

Drill beats

Sliding 808 bass under an ominous piano melody, around 144 BPM.

Lo-fi beats

Mellow jazzy chords, soft swung drums, and warm vinyl crackle, around 82 BPM.

Features

Beat Maker AI That Leaves Room for Your Verse

Steer the beat with a few choices instead of programming every drum hit.

Always instrumental

Beats come back without vocals or lyrics, so your verse is the only voice on the track. The setting is locked when the beat is generated rather than left as a default, which means there is never a stray voice to mute before you record. When you want a finished rap song with vocals instead, the AI Rap Generator handles that from a topic.

BPM from 60 to 170

Leave BPM on Auto and each style uses its usual tempo: around 140 for trap, 92 for boom bap, 144 for drill, and 82 for lo-fi. Drag the slider anywhere from 60 to 170 to match the pace you write and rap at. The model follows the request closely but not always exactly, so check the finished beat if timing matters.

Mood on top of style

Pick one of eight moods, from dark, hard-hitting, and hype to chill, emotional, melancholic, uplifting, or mysterious, or leave it on Any mood. The mood changes the feel without changing the genre, so a trap beat can come out menacing or bouncy, and a lo-fi beat calm or wistful. It is a quick way to get two very different beats from one style.

Extra details

Use Extra details to add up to 200 characters of direction: an instrument, a sample feel, or an arrangement note such as a bells melody or sparse drums in the intro. On models that support it, a Creativity slider sets how closely the beat sticks to the classic sound of your style, or how many chances the model takes.

Stems in the workspace

This is not a step sequencer, so you steer the beat instead of programming each hit. The default model returns two takes per generation; open the one that fits your flow in the workspace to remix it, extend it where the model supports it, or split it into stems such as drums and bass to rearrange in your DAW. Each action uses credits.

Download on a paid plan

Beats stay private in your list until you share them. Paid plans include audio downloads and commercial use under the applicable agreement, and Pro and Ultra users can also download a personalized license agreement. Review it before you release a song recorded over the beat, and make sure you own the lyrics and vocals you add on top.

FAQ

AI beat maker questions

An AI beat maker generates an instrumental beat from a few choices instead of programming drums and samples by hand. Here you pick trap, boom bap, drill, or lo-fi, set the BPM and mood, and Lacuna produces the beat.

You can try it with the free credits that come with a Lacuna account; you need to sign in to generate. Each generation uses credits based on the model you choose, and audio downloads are included with paid plans.

Trap, boom bap, drill, and lo-fi hip hop. Add a mood and extra details — an instrument, a sample feel, or an arrangement note — to steer the beat further within that style.

Yes. Leave it on Auto for the style's typical tempo or request any BPM from 60 to 170. The model follows the request closely but not always exactly, so check the finished beat if timing matters.

No. This page always generates instrumental beats — the setting is fixed when the beat is generated. If you want a complete rap song with vocals, use the AI Rap Generator.

Not hit by hit — this is not a step sequencer. You steer the beat with style, BPM, mood, and extra details, then generate again or remix. To work on individual parts, split the beat into stems and rearrange them in your DAW.

There is no length setting. Beats come back as full instrumental arrangements, and lengths vary between takes. Trim or loop sections in your DAW if you need a specific length.

Paid plans include commercial use under the applicable agreement, and Pro and Ultra users can download a personalized license agreement. Review it before releasing, and make sure you own the lyrics and vocals you add.
